Charity, Mindfulness & Plum Village

Practice, community, and care given freely.

In 2018 I begun working with Plum Village, a global mindfulness facility with locations in France, Thailand and Vietnam. Led by Vietnamese spiritual guru Thich Nhat Hanh, these villages cater to a global audience of followers seeking to enrich their lives.

My way of contributing to the organization has been to volunteer my chiropractic services to the nuns and leaders of the organization, including the founder Thich Nhat Hanh. Since originally volunteering, I have returned to Asia several times, for months at a time, to devote myself to this initiative which has changed many lives.

About Thich Nhat Hanh

The charismatic founder of Plum Village is among the world’s most visible and influential Buddhist monks and peace activists. From publishing over 100 books on the subject of mindfulness, to leading protests against the Vietnam War, and being nominated by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 1967, his message has been spread far. After suffering a brain hemorrhage in 2014, Thich Nhat Hanh has returned to his birth place, at the Plum Village center in Central Vietnam.

Chiropractic Treatment & Footwear

In my time treating hundreds of nuns at the center, I’ve observed a few conditions, including chronic foot pain resulting from dropped arches, tibial medial rotation, and pelvic unleveling. These contribute to knee, lower back, and sleep problems which greatly affect their lives and make their daily practices substantially more difficult.

Thus, I am seeking cooperation from the ergonomic footwear maker, Birkenstock. These are the shoes which I have always brought with me to treat patients around the world, including those in Vietnam, and I’m convinced that this is the socially conscious organization which is most well suited to have impact. In 22 years of chiropractic work, helping these people has been among the most fruitful pursuit of my professional career.
